Children's Church and Family Service

Children aren't just the future of the church they are a very important part of its present.  We want make sure children are made as welcome as possible at all ages.  We love to hear their voices and their views matter to us.

Children's Church is a new venture for us here at S. Saviour's.  For a long time we haven't been able to provide a Sunday School or focused activities for children but we are absolutely delighted to have Children's Church.

Children's Church takes place on alternate Sundays at 9am to about quarter to ten, although it is worship it is extremely informal.

We begin with a prayer and a story from the bible and a simple explanation, this is followed by various activities to do with the week's theme to help the children (and their parents!) remember what we have been thinking about.

Tea, coffee, juice and snacks are available free of charge throughout.

It is aimed all children from birth to ten years but we do ask that parents attend with their children (we all know how much mums and dads enjoy colouring!)

Children's Church also forms the bulk of preparation for baptism, so if you are interested in bringing your child for baptism please come along and speak to Fr Andrew.

The Family Eucharist is another innovation, it takes place on the last Sunday of the month at 11am.  The service is less formal, we use projections rather than books and no vestments or incense.  We try to make sure the songs are more family friendly as well as using more informal translations for the bible readings.  The talk is usually interactive and encourages the children to take a fuller part in sharing God's message with us.

We also encourage our children to take as full a part in our services as possible; some like to serve at the altar and assist the priests, others like to help out taking the collection or giving out booklets and welcoming people to church.
